The ideas often come from clients. In this case a special client we really enjoy working with. Our assigned task was to design and make an important One of a Kind Necklace featuring the client's family crest. We started with drawings and layouts until we got the client's approval. Next we began hand making the models, i.e.,the prototypes, for the individual parts to make up the necklace. We created about 40 original models ... all by hand, no computers. The finished necklace had approximately 320 individual parts. Handmade in Sterling Silver and 18k Gold. The background of the crest is Cobalt Blue Vitreous Enamel. It is a colored glass which is melted onto the surface of the background metal at about 1500 degrees F. The Crossed Swords, Fleur de lis and Castle are then bolted onto the surface with Sterling Silver bolts and nuts. Diamonds were set in the links. Designated parts were textured using different techniques to create contrasting effects. The entire project was done by hand ... no computers, no modern laser technology.
